[ He snorts and settles on the floor. Roy is drinking himself to
death, but he's not quite there. Raleigh knows that in the end, this will
just be a scare visit -- Roy took himself close enough to court death,
perhaps this will be a lesson learned. ]
[he actually looks mildly disappointed; he's drunk enough that he's less focused on the idea of dying and moreso on how totally wicked it would be to see a talking skull...head...thing.]
[roy's even too drunk to really lean away from raleigh, but as the haze of alcohol clears from his mind, he inhales sharply and blinks wide, bright eyes at raleigh.]
Talk-- about a headrush.
[he rubs at his eyes and just stares at the hooded figure before him, scrutinizing him.]
So by "not this time", you mean I'm not gonna die today?
[which is sort of a relief, now that he thinks about it.]
[raleigh's hand shouldn't be as soothing as it is -- being death and all -- but as all the poison roy had essentially pumped into his body is drawn out, he can feel everything relaxing under raleigh's touch.]
I didn't know Death made courtesy calls.
[he chuckles softly, a smile tugging at his lips.]
[roy looks honestly confused now, but he keeps holding onto that bony wrist, not quite ready to let go.]
...why'd you do that for me?
[his voice isn't nearly as jocular as it usually is, the same lightheartedness replaced by actual awe and a strong sense of gratitude -- though he still doesn't understand why death would save him of all people.]
[roy's looking at raleigh with a mixture of amazement and a stupidly strong wave of emotion washes through him.]
I'm really not done?
[he chokes on a soft laugh, his eyes sliding shut before reopening to look at raleigh.]
Felt pretty done for a minute there.
[he'd been working pretty hard to just be done, to be dead, finished, blank, but that's what he'd thought was left for him -- no other options, no places to turn.
and then it had just continued to spiral downwards.
[ He leans on his scythe, cowl and robes fluttering with his movements, and he can't help but chuckle in amusement -- nnnnot many people want Death to stick around and have a chat. ]
I do have a schedule.
[ But it's nothing pressing. Just reaping souls and all. ]
no subject
[call it morbid fascination, if nothing else.]
Does your jawbone move and everything when you talk?
no subject
[ He snorts and settles on the floor. Roy is drinking himself to death, but he's not quite there. Raleigh knows that in the end, this will just be a scare visit -- Roy took himself close enough to court death, perhaps this will be a lesson learned. ]
Suppose you'll find out.

[he actually looks mildly disappointed; he's drunk enough that he's less focused on the idea of dying and moreso on how totally wicked it would be to see a talking skull...head...thing.]
no subject
Not this time.
[ And he reaches out, slowly brushing a gloved hand over Roy's head, palm on the back of his head.
And just like that, the effects will fade, and he'll see quite clearly the image of a hooded death in front of him. ]
no subject
Talk-- about a headrush.

So by "not this time", you mean I'm not gonna die today?
[which is sort of a relief, now that he thinks about it.]

[ His fingers linger, leeching all the after affects out, all the toxins and crap that he's put into his body. ]
But you will, if you continue.
no subject
I didn't know Death made courtesy calls.
[he chuckles softly, a smile tugging at his lips.]
no subject
[ There we go...relax. It's a gentle touch - Death doesn't need to be violent, does he. ]
I don't. You were close enough to the edge that I came.
no subject
[he's teasing, feeling well enough to actually do that.]
Or is it because of what you're doin' here?
[he reaches up, gently curling his fingers around raleigh's wrist as his head leans into his palm.]
no subject
[ Quiet, honest. Roy's fingers will close around a wrist alright, but it's gloved and slightly boney.
Not quite skeletal, though. ]
I don't give everyone a second chance.
no subject
...why'd you do that for me?
[his voice isn't nearly as jocular as it usually is, the same lightheartedness replaced by actual awe and a strong sense of gratitude -- though he still doesn't understand why death would save him of all people.]
no subject
...I don't know.
[ Truthful. Honest. He rarely does this -- perhaps once every several hundred years or more. He can't explain why he did it...only that he did. ]
You aren't finished.
no subject
I'm really not done?
[he chokes on a soft laugh, his eyes sliding shut before reopening to look at raleigh.]
Felt pretty done for a minute there.
[he'd been working pretty hard to just be done, to be dead, finished, blank, but that's what he'd thought was left for him -- no other options, no places to turn.
and then it had just continued to spiral downwards.
but now he's not done.]
no subject
[ He agrees, tilting his head a little before finally pulling his hand back. ]
You're really not done.
[ And he's getting up, pushing himself to his feet and fuck, he's probably seven feet tall, towering over Roy. ]
Throw the bottles away. Change your lifestyle. IF you do, it will be a very long time before we see one another again.
no subject
[roy's eyes follow raleigh up and fuck, he's tall as hell. he's grateful for what raleigh did for him, but he doesn't want him to go, not yet.]
Hang on. I mean, I know you probably have souls to reap or whatever, but...I'm curious, y'know. Not everyday someone meets death.
no subject
I do have a schedule.
[ But it's nothing pressing. Just reaping souls and all. ]
Did you have a question?
no subject
Well. Some.
[he chuckles, propping himself up better and focusing on raleigh.]
So you're like...the death? Been doing this since the dawn of time? 'cause that's a longass time to exist.
no subject
I don't remember how long I've been doing it.
[ That's easy enough to admit. ]
But there are several like me. Sentinels. Guides. But...yes. I am 'the' death.
no subject
So...does that mean there was a time when you weren't death?
[because if he can't remember, that means maybe there was something before it, right?
he's curious about death, of course, because he's a weirdo.]
no subject
Yes.
[ Quiet. ]
But I don't remember.
no subject
Anything?
[raleigh sounds...sad, almost. that's kind of heartbreaking.]
So you had a human life and all?
no subject
[ Sad. Wistful. An assortment of things. ]
Yes. A long, long time ago.
no subject
[he smiles softly at raleigh, just watching him, looking at the cowl without seeing anything.]
So you had a name that wasn't death?
no subject
I did.
[ Roy has a lot of questions. ]
You're very curious.
no subject
Damn right I am.
[he grins at raleigh, giving a shrug.]
You're death; what's not to be curious about? And you saved my life, so even more reason to be curious. You gonna tell me your name?
[he even sounds hopeful!]
